Elope with pizza
Creative sessions are where I feel the most free and in my authentic zone. As a photographer its hard to convince people to book a creative session just for themselves. So why not combine a creative session with a session that you know people are already going to be getting a photographer for? A creative pivot if you will. I have been thinking a lot about doing more traveling for my photography, but I have always been nervous about taking the wedding photography leap. As someone who has always wanted to elope, I don’t know why I didn’t think of trying out elopements years ago. Whelp anyways lets not dwell on the past. I wanted to get some styled shoots together to gain experience while also getting pictures for my portfolio.
Made a post on IG and got an immediate response from a couple who do modeling sessions for people. I told them my idea, and we met three days later in downtown Worcester, MA, at Wonder Bar Pizza. My idea was a fun elopement with pizza. The sign outside the pizza place was what drew me to this restaurant. But the inside was historical and dimly lit with a south-facing front window for some nice golden hour light.
Taking photos in public can be a little nerve-racking, even after doing it for 6 months now, I’m a little more comfortable. I always tell myself you are most likely never going to see these people again, or maybe I could meet my next client by doing this. Kat and Charlie were so fun to work with! It was nice having a couple who have done this a few times. This being my first “elopement,” I had some ideas but was nervous, and if you know me, a little awkward lol. Kat was ready to dive in and had some ideas of her own as well. We got what we needed and headed outside to get some pictures with the sign on the building, as well as some behind-the-scenes shots.
I had an idea to go to another pizza place as well. This was a restaurant that Kat and Charlie often went to called Antonios. Antonios had a very different vibe from The Wonder Bar. This was much more laid-back. The pizza was served buffet style, compared to being seated and served. The staff was so accommodating, and the customers were congratulating them left and right.
This was a learning and growing experience for me, and I can’t wait for the next styled shoot or elopement I have.
